Schnoozie the mini Schnauzer came to us from an abuse/neglect situation. He was dumped at animal control in a kennel that was covered in feces and his coat was matted and overgrown. He had clearly not been let out of his kennel in days. Schnoozie was never socialized and took days to stop trembling when a person entered the room. However, over the course of a few weeks, he has really blossomed. Schnoozie loves our daughters (ages 4 & 5) and adores our family. However, he still is fearful when meeting new people. He often barks and growls upon meeting a new person when in his own home (though he doesn’t do this when out on walks, etc). However, once he learns the new person is “safe” his fearful barks/growls subside. He is a true velcro dog and wants to be by his person’s side at all times. He is great in the car, loves walks and snuggles. He sleeps in bed with us without accidents and is the BEST cuddler! Once you are “his person,” you can do no wrong. He is truly the sweetest guy and we know he will continue to blossom and grow as he becomes more socialized. We are working on house-training. He wears a belly-band, which he doesn’t mind, as he is learning not to mark. He does not love his crate but does not have accidents in his crate. Once he gets to know other dogs, he loves them. Schnoozie needs a patient family… but he is truly worth the slow pace because he is simply INCREDIBLE once he knows you’re safe.
